Government Should ‘Change Negative Narrative’ Around Policing
The new Government has a great opportunity to back officers and reverse the negative narrative around policing, the Chair of Hampshire Police Federation has said.
Nearly a third (31%) of police officers who responded to the PFEW’s latest Pay and Morale Survey said they did not feel proud to be in the police, with 95% saying the way police were treated by the Government had a negative impact on their morale.
Hampshire Police Federation Chair Zoë Wakefield said: “This is such a good opportunity for the new Government to come out with a completely different stance. We know how much the media is influenced by the Government, so what would happen if politicians turned around and said how amazing the police are, what a brilliant job the police did over the summer and what would the country do without them?
“Yvette Cooper has always been really supportive of policing and I hope that she continues to be positive about us. I think it’s a great opportunity for them to completely change that negative narrative that’s been going on now for several years.”
