Colleagues praised at Federation’s Reward and Recognition Evening

An operational planning sergeant at Hampshire Constabulary has been honoured for saving colleagues’ lives after he set up an innovative new screening service.

Sgt Stuart Snow established a force-wide PSA testing programme which has seen officers and staff diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Zoë Wakefield, Hampshire Federation Chair, said: “Stuart has been running all these events and as a result, officers and police staff were diagnosed with cancer – so his work has saved lives. None of them had any symptoms – so they had no idea that they had cancer. It was good to give him an award, and recognise all our reps for their hard work.”

Stuart was among officers honoured at the Federation’s Award and Recognition Evening on 1 November, alongside Gary Walker who rode more than 1,000 miles, from John O’ Groats to Lands End, who won an award for his incredible fundraising efforts. Rob Kearley was voted by officers as Representative of the Year at the event.

Zoë said: “It is good to be able to go back to these reps and tell them how many people nominated them for the support they’ve provided. Being a rep can be a bit of a thankless task, so it’s really nice when you get some of that positive feedback about how you’ve impacted other members.”

The event raised £3,000 for two important charities; Children With Cancer and The Police Children’s Fund.
