Hampshire officers on standby ready to help colleagues around the country if necessary

HAMPSHIRE police officers are on standby, ready to help deal with any protests or mass gatherings in the county.

Hampshire Police Federation Chair Zoe Wakefield said the force was ‘always prepared’ and ready to deal with any ‘kill the bill’ or similar events.

It’s shaping up to be a busy summer for policing across the country, meaning officers from across the country may be deployed on mutual aid to help out where they are needed.

Officers from Hampshire will be helping out their Devon and Cornwall colleagues to help police June’s G7 summit in Carbis Bay.

“The force is reviewing the situation all the time,” she said.

“We are monitoring everything, getting the intelligence in, looking at social media, all those kinds of things to make sure that we are prepared.

“We’ve got officers on standby if needed, but Hampshire is not a place where we get a lot of protests.”
